It’s a known fact that my reading taste mostly revolves around fiction. However, I have been trying to dig into more non-fiction books recently, and am currently in the midst of a John Adams biography. What better time to talk about all things biography+autobiography+graphies?

She discovered life’s colors through God’s love.

(That definitely did not take me way too long to think of, nopity nope.)

Les Questions:

1. What is the benefit of reading autobiographies?

I like autobiographies because they feel almost like…a mentor or grandparently figure telling you about their life. I think of this person as sitting in a rocking chair as I’m curled up at their feet, and they’re telling me stories of the ups and downs in their life, and I get to learn from their mistakes and become inspired by their successes. Autobiographies are personal and vivid, like novels, only you know these incredible stories really did happen. And it’s such a special feeling.

2. Would you rather read autobiographies or biographies?

Oooh, this is a tough question. On the one hand, I love the personal connection you get with autobiographies…but at the same time I like learning about dead people and bringing them to life. 😂

I think I’ll have to go with biographies.

3. What would your autobiography really be about?

I’m not quite sure yet. I’m still a very young lassie, full of big dreams and goals and plans that are still all just in my head. But no matter which path my life takes, I’ll always find the threads of God’s love in people I meet and the experiences I have. Life only gets more vivid and more beautiful the closer we grow to God, which is what I hope to do.

4. Is it hard to remember earlier memories?

How early are we talking about? 😂 I actually remember old memories very vividly, but it took me a second to think of what I ate for breakfast yesterday.

5. Or harder to remember more recent memories?

Yes, probably harder for the recent ones. I think my brain takes time to properly store and process everything.

(Aren’t these are the best biographies ever? 😂)

6. Could your life be a believable novel?

I don’t think I have a boring life, but I also have a very…explanatory life? I’m not quite sure how to put this, but yes, my life would be a believable novel. 😆

7. Who should you write a biography about?

I’ve actually had an idea for a biography at the back of my mind for a while, but I’m waiting to write it until I’m a bit older. I would write about the Vietnamese billionaire Phạm Nhật Vượng, richest man in Vietnam and owner of the conglomerate Vingroup company. It all started when he was a student in Russia. He founded an instant noodle business in the Ukraine during the collapse of the Soviet Union, to feed the starving people. Once he sold that business for millions, he was able to invest in projects back home in Vietnam and create Vingroup, a massive brand that includes luxury resorts, hotels, skyscraper apartment buildings, underground department stores, malls, grocery stores, electric cars, you name it. He played a huge role in raising Vietnam out of their status as a third world country and lifting their quality of life to Western standards. Having personally experienced many of Vingroup’s enterprises and products, I can say their quality is wonderfully high and Phạm himself is incredibly inspiring for me.

It doesn’t hurt that we’re distantly related. 😛 (Very, very distantly, because the Phạm family name is as common as our Smith, Johnson, and Miller. XD)

One last announcement: I will be taking a blogging break for the rest of the summer. Between moving cross-country for college in the fall (eeep!), packing up my current house, and spending time with my dear childhood friends before we part ways…I’ll be busy, and I want to make the most of the time I have left here in Texas. Just so you know I haven’t fallen off a cliff or anything, I’ll be back in one to two months, hopefully all moved into my new home!

In the meantime…we’re so close to a hundred subscribers. Ninety-eight, to be precise. While I’m gone, I’ll be working on a huge surprise that I will unveil when we get past 100 subscribers. A surprise which involves maps and hunting and, best of all, PRIZES, which will increase with every new subscriber. Sound fun? 😀
